The dust seems to have finally settled after the non shocking cancellation of TBS’ “Lopez Tonight,” but a question lingers. How will TBS fill their now vacant midnight time slot? Currently, the network is airing reruns of G.Lo’s show (although, I would’ve naturally assumed TBS would plugged up the time slot with another hour of “Family Guy”) for the time being. Does TBS want to have another late night chat show to follow Conan? It would seem logical to have another talk show. The pairing of O’Brien and Lopez was a lot like the pairing of fennel with, well, anything. Just going to leave a bad taste in your mouth.
TBS could heed the advice of numerous Huffington Post lists and pick a popular podcaster to fill Lopez’s shoes and hopefully continue on with the random marijuana references and angry divorce jokes. Certain podcasts work well because it’s only an hour once a week; the novelty may be stretched a bit too thin over the course of four nights a week.
Which leads me to my point, Tom Scharpling should be the host of TBS’ midnight talk show. As O’Brien morphs into his version of the Letterman/Leno archetype; being a voice people turn to while mixing in his brand of surreal sketch comedy. Scharpling’s humor would only seem to compliment O’Brien’s show. It could potentially be like Conan’s original late night show. Scharpling could break bands and comedians. Maybe I see Scharpling as an ideal replacement host because I’ve been listening to the last 8 months of his show non stop.
There’s something that just clicks about him working better as a talk show host.

This is a really weird song by The Byrds about how Roger McGuinn wants to fuck a horse.
